Remember Together - a tribute to John McCrae and In Flanders Fields
Do you have any schools or school teachers in your network….or young people in your family? Read on for news about an essential Canada-UK “Remember Together” activity for young people! With your help we can ensure that the importance of peace and collaboration, and the historic friendship between our two countries is not forgotten.
Remember Together: John McCrae 150 will bring together UK and Canada school children on 9 November 2022 to be inspired by the amazing story of John McCrae and mark the 150th anniversary of his birth. Together they will discover the story behind his famous poem, In Flanders Fields and the enduring links to the poppy as a symbol of commemoration. They will take action together to commemorate him, his incredible legacy and celebrate the continuing friendship between young people in the UK and Canada.
A series of 3 digital events will take place on 9 November 2022. The events will be fun and creative, with writing, drawing and designing taking place during the session. Activities will be geared to both primary and secondary school audiences. There is no charge for this event, which is made possible by a funding partnership between The Canada-UK Foundation, Canada Memorial Foundation and The Maple Leaf Trust, with kind promotional support from The Canada-UK Chamber of Commerce.
The initiative culminates on November 30 when the art, poems and memories gathered by the pupils will be featured in a major digital campaign undertaken by the three charities and their partner Big Ideas Agency. We are delighted that His Excellency, The Honourable Ralph Goodale will read a few of the poems. Please share news of this event, and help us ensure that the history of friendships between our two countries, and the importance of peace and collaboration, is not forgotten by our young people.
