Introducing our final 2021/2022 CMF Scholar- Laura Chen

My name is Laura Chen, I am from Vancouver, British Columbia, and I am thrilled to be studying at the London School of Economics to pursue my master’s in Environmental Economics and Climate Change with the support of the Canada Memorial Foundation.

As a community leader, organiser, and aspiring climate policy economics researcher, I am grateful for the foundation and its generous donors for this incredible opportunity to broaden my perspective on this challenging global issue. The technical rigour, interdisciplinary approach, and world-renowned reputation of LSE makes me confident that I’ll be equipped to champion new perspectives to shape the public discourse on climate-aligned sustainable development.

Tackling the climate crisis is a global effort and I hope through my graduate studies, I’ll be able to develop deeper insights and collaborations with my cohort. I am most looking forward to integrating international perspectives from my course, making lifetime friendships that will challenge me intellectually, and exploring the UK's diverse culture. In the future, I hope to become an environmental economist working at a movement-driven policy think tank that tackles the climate crisis and inequality by building justice-centered climate finance policy.

We look forward to updating you on our scholars as they tackle their first terms. For more information on our scholarship programs, please contact hasna@canadaukfoundation.org.
