Call for Essays: Canada and the UK

The Canada-UK Foundation promotes Canada in the UK  through education, upholding the excellence of Canadian scholarly pursuits in the UK and encouraging cross-cultural collaboration. In line with our mission, we've been sharing stories from the academics we fund, and about the incredible cohort of Canadian talent that can be found in the UK.

Now, we want to hear from you. For budding writers with a connection to both Canada and the UK, if you have a story to tell, send us your pitch. Tell us about your inspiring journey to a new country, a recipe that reminds you of home, or a bit of science news from Canada that you’re eager to share. Whatever your idea, we’d love to hear about it. Right now, we’re especially interested in stories about science and technology, climate, artificial intelligence and indigenous affairs.

Every month, we’ll select a pitch for an essay that will be published and shared with our followers. An honorarium of £100 is available for successful pitches. Pitches should be between 100 to 150 words, and the final essay should be between 500 to 1000 words. The final essay should not have been published elsewhere and will be due 3 weeks after the pitch is accepted. Authors will retain the rights to the essay.

Eligibility: Anyone over 18 years with a strong connection to both Canada and the UK in some capacity, who has not published more than 5 articles prior to pitching.

The deadline for this call has passed. To apply to next month’s deadline, subscribe to our newsletter to be the first to know when it opens.
