The Inaugural Commonwealth Mixer

Despite the rain and the need for COVID passport checks, we had a capacity crowd at Canada House recently for the inaugural Commonwealth Mixer. We plan to make this an annual event together with our charity counterparts from the Britain-Australia Society and the New Zealand Society UK. In total, 166 people attended the event, a mix of people from all sectors including business, government, academia and creative industries, alumni  and guests of Canada UK Foundation and Canada Memorial Foundation, Britain Australia Society and New Zealand Society (UK).

We came together in the spirit of celebrating our shared Commonwealth values, and our shared mission, promoting international exchanges particularly scholarships. We were, however, minded of current war between Russia and the Ukraine. Both the moderator, Chair William Swords, and the keynote speaker, Deputy High Commissioner (interim) Nathalie Dube, acknowledged Canadian support for Ukraine and Ukrainian Canadians. We were also delighted to catch up with Canada Memorial Foundation scholars Katherine Greene, our Canadian scholar now at London School of Economics, and Daniel Judd and Abe Chauhan, the UK scholars who will use their CMF scholarships to study in Canada.

Our warmest thanks to all our guests and special mention to the sponsors who made the event possible, CGI, Coopers Brewery, and Yealands Wines.
